ABOUT LEAP SCHOOL
The School | Life Orientation | Social Responsibility
In early 2003 scouting around for potential financers of the school began and by October 2003 a R1m funding from the Shuttleworth Foundation was secured. With this financial backing and the Bishops partnership in place, as well as the blessing of the Western Cape Education Department, the LEAP School was established in late 2003 and opened its doors to its first 72 students at the beginning of 2004.
The School
The LEAP School campus is situated in the Mupine College Building in Pinelands, Cape Town. The majority of the students are from Langa township. The facilities include: ____________________ classroom venues; a fully networked open-source computer laboratory installed by the Shuttleworth Foundation; and enough office and storage space to make the school workable. The students and teachers take full responsibility for day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of the facilities.

Life Orientation
The school devotes 40 valuable teaching minutes per day for every student to attend Life Orientation, where the individual student's sense of wholeness, identity and belonging are developed. From this platform each of the students builds the ability to risk, to be open and to talk about feelings. These Life Orientation lessons form a central role in LEAP's broader social responsibility objectives. Read more...
Social Responsibility
LEAP acts as a social responsibility node by running the following programs:
Teacher Mentoring Program
Teaching Resource Centre
Teacher Reclamation
Student Tutoring
Unemployed Parents
LEAP Counseling Services
Community Bridging
LEAP's Township Links and Community Projects
While the ongoing and specific objective of the LEAP School is for each student to graduate from the school with a university exemption, the longer-term objective is to play an active part in the transformation of disadvantaged communities by acting as a node for sharing and engaging.
