Code of Conduct

The LEAP Code of Conduct - way of behaviour - is a statement of intent that governs all of our day-to-day interactions and decision-making. We work to understand the code and its implications in the Life Orientation classroom – it is within this safe framework that we begin to challenge and internalise these values. The code reflects only positive attributes and applies to all members of the LEAP learning community, staff, teachers and learners alike, and we are all accountable for our actions in terms of this code.

The LEAP philosophy encourages and relies on personal and collective responsibility as the basic self-regulating component of good discipline. The use of this code of conduct as the framework for establishing a positive working environment within the schools represents a break from established school practice and is a clear rejection of fear-based motivational strategies.

The LEAP model is in itself exploring an alternative African-based values framework that weaves the principles of 'ubuntu' into the fabric of school learning communities.

'ubuntu': A person is a person through other persons. We affirm our humanity when we acknowledge that of others.
